All Good Things Must Come to an End

With graduation and the bar exam around the corner for three our contributors, it is time for me to develop a plan for the future of The Legal Scoop. I have a few ideas in my head already and I am constantly thinking about what should come next. In any event, I can promise that it will be just as entertaining and insightful as was this blog. Stay tuned for more updates...

More Interview Tips

According to a recent post at WSJ Law Blog, it looks like this year might be another tough market for summer associates.   Gain a competitive edge in your summer placement pursuits by sharpening your interview skills.  Successful interviewing requires thorough research and preparation.  I posted earlier this week on a couple links (see below) which elaborate more on this point.  The University of Indiana School of Law - Indianapolis has a great webpage dedicated entirely to interviewing tips.  Check out some of the following links for additional law student interviewing resources: Legal Authority; Vault Career Advice; ABA - Law Student Division; Above the Law; NALP; FindLaw; Scribd (extremely crude, but humorous); Crack Interview.info; Office of Career Services Blog; Washington & Lee University School of Law; & BCG.

Good luck!

A Unique Look at the NCAA Tournament

A friend of mine, and an excellent attorney I might add, wrote an article in 2006 that was published in the USA Today. I won't spoil the article for you, but I will tell you that it provides a unique comparison between the American life and dream and the NCAA Tournament. Check out the article, at UnevenKiel, by clicking here.

FAA penalizes Southwest Airlines

The FAA penalizing an airline has some increased significance to me due to the fact that I am currently studying Administrative Law and regardless of what the result of the adjudication may be, it is interesting to see the Executive power in action.

The Federal Aviation Administration ("FAA") is an agency regulating safety in aviation throughout our great nation.  For a brief statement of what the the FAA does, click here

The FAA recently imposed a $10.2 million civil penalty on Southwest Airlines for their alleged failure to meet inspection requirements.  Hmmm, might this bother some people?  Southwest is appealing the decision and penalty.

Al Gore to Be Sued?

The following headline grabbed my attention this morning:

"Al Gore to be Sued by Weather Channel Founder"

The headline immediately got my attention, so I read on. John Coleman, the founder of the Weather Channel, is calling global warming a fraud and wants to sue Al Gore for his continual advocacy of the phenomenon. Coleman has stated that billions of dollars are being made over global warming, and "that is indeed the impetus for the alarmism associated with it." In the past, Coleman also made the remark that global warming is "the greatest scam in history."

Isn't there too much scientific evidence that bolsters the view of those that believe that global warming is a true threat to the existence of all types of species, including humans, on this earth? Could Gore, and others, possibly be using global warming as a way to put money in their own pockets?

Thoughts?

Bill Haltom: The Death of the Trial Lawyer

The March issue of the Tennessee Bar Journal features a very interesting piece by Bill Haltom of Thomason Hendrix Harvey Johnson and Mitchell in Memphis, Tennessee. The piece highlights the growing trend towards alternative dispute resolution and the effects on the vanishing trial, trial lawyer, and trial judge. I have attached a link to a .pdf version of this month's journal, and recommend you to page 31.
