Al Gore to Be Sued?

The following headline grabbed my attention this morning:

"Al Gore to be Sued by Weather Channel Founder"

The headline immediately got my attention, so I read on. John Coleman, the founder of the Weather Channel, is calling global warming a fraud and wants to sue Al Gore for his continual advocacy of the phenomenon. Coleman has stated that billions of dollars are being made over global warming, and "that is indeed the impetus for the alarmism associated with it." In the past, Coleman also made the remark that global warming is "the greatest scam in history."

Isn't there too much scientific evidence that bolsters the view of those that believe that global warming is a true threat to the existence of all types of species, including humans, on this earth? Could Gore, and others, possibly be using global warming as a way to put money in their own pockets?

Thoughts?

A Prisoner's Best Friend

Thanks to a law school buddy for passing the following story along to me...

Michael Ray, a prisoner in a facility near Columbia, South Carolina, has been locked up numerous times in the past for participating in all kinds of fraud and embezzlement schemes. Ray was quoted as stating, ""I just have a real problem with financial institutions, and I'm a self-proclaimed addicted gambler." Ray seems just like any other non-violent criminal, but what makes his story unique?

Social Networking Spreads Into The Legal Profession

An attorney out of Oakland, California just recently founded LawLink.com, a social network site for attorneys. Close to 2,000 attorneys nationwide have signed up in just over two months. About 1,000 of those attorneys are Tennessee attorneys. Why? Because the Tennessee Bar Association (TBA) included an American Bar Association (ABA) article in its weekly online newsletter discussing LawLink. These numbers show that social networking is something that people of every age and profession want to engage in.

Student Tasered at John Kerry Speech

The video below shows a student at the University of Florida who apparently asked "one to many questions" to John Kerry during a speech. Police decide to arrest him and take it a bit too far, in my opinion. What do you think?

An Opinion Unlike Any Other...

Judge Gregory R. Todd of Montana's 13th Judicial District released a "Sentencing Memorandum" on February 26, 2007 against defendant Andrew Scott McCormack. McCormack was charged with burglary, and when the judge asked McCormick to give him his opinion of what the court should do with his case, he responded "Like the Beetles say, 'Let it Be'". Let's just say that McCormack's reply both set the judge off and got his creative juices flowing, and he composed a very humorous opinion, especially if you are a Beatles fan.

Check out the full opinion in PDF file by clicking here. I verified that the opinion is indeed authentic by calling the administrative office of the court.

Now that you've read the opinion, wouldn't you say that this is truly 'an opinion unlike any other'?

Update: Dry Cleaners Wins Lawsuit

I was much relieved to find out today that the District of Columbia Superior Court Judge Bartnoff ruled that the Korean immigrant owners of Custom Cleaners did not violate the city's Consumer Protection Act by failing to live up to the plaintiff's expectations of the "Satisfaction Guaranteed" sign that was once displayed in the store window. The final ruling read:

"Plaintiff Roy L. Pearson, Jr. takes nothing from the defendants, and defendants Soo Chung, Jin Nam Chung and Ki Y. Chung are awarded the costs of this action against the plaintiff Roy L. Pearson, Jr."

For more details about the case, please see my previous post, "Should This Case be in Court? You Decide..."

Should This Case be in Court? You Decide...

We have all heard about the recent lawsuit brought by Roy Pearson, a Washington D.C. administrative law judge, against "Custom Cleaners." Pearson claims that the cleaners lost his pants two years ago, and he is pretty mad about that. However, he is even more upset about the signs that were subsequently posted outside of the cleaners guaranteeing customer satisfaction. He is suing the cleaners for...

Updated on Sunday, July 22, 2007 at 06:40PM by Registered CommenterScott Felsenthal

It seems that every week the news either gets worse or more strange, this story being the latter of those two. Michael Vick is currently being investigated for allegedly running an illegal pit bull fighting ring near his home in Springfield, Virginia...
