It's All Part of the Game- Or is it?
A former collegiate soccer player from American University, Freddy Llerena, initiated a lawsuit against the D.C. United franchise, its owners and investors, and former player Hristo Stoitchkov for an incident that occured during a scrimmage game in 2003.
U.S. Supreme Court Saves Phillip Morris
So why is this here? Why is this being blogged about? The question has an easy answer...Because its interesting. Its news. It is a major win for Philip Morris, and Big Tobacco. It means that future plaintiffs bringing their case in State courts will need to form a Class Action suit in order to really "stick it" to the Tobacco Companies. No individual plaintiff will be permitted (in State court) to tag any corporation (Fast Food Industry, Tobacco, Alcohol, Firearms, etc.) with a large punitive award meant to prohibit larger-scale behavior.

Good Sunday to everyone. Here are a few worthwhile reads around the web:
- Our new friend over at the Health Care Law Blog posted an article about the attorney-client privilege. Despite what me may know and hear, this privilege is still evolving and slowly becoming less of a true privilege. Check out the article for more: CLICK HERE
- Over at R. Enoch's blog, there is a good (and interesting I might add) post on whether or not the First Amendment allows for an individual (a 10 year old boy) to wear a Jesus costume to a Halloween party at his school. Make up your own mind on this one... Read more about it: CLICK HERE
- The Sports Law Blog wrote an article, with many interesting links, about how Wimbledon has decided to make equal the prize money for men and women. Wimbledon is the last grand slam to take this big step. CLICK HERE
- The Legal Underground recently posted an article urging attorneys to automatically assume that the person you are deposing is lying, unless you are absolute certain what he/she is saying is the truth. CLICK HERE
Have a wonderful Sunday!

A Good Example of "Unprofessional Irresponsibility"
For those of us who are either currently taking Professional Responsibility or have already taken the class, this is a good example of what NOT to do as an attorney.
Anthony Bellettieri, a real estate lawyer, pleaded guilty to bank and mail fraud after he "stole funds through check kiting — taking money from his law firm's escrow account and writing checks on another account to cover the escrow account's losses." The attorney stole more than $20 million from one bank and at least one client.
Death Certificates to be issued with Abortions?
Here is an excerpt from the article.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Legislation introduced in Tennessee would require death certificates for aborted fetuses, which likely would create public records identifying women who have abortions. Rep. Stacey Campfield, a Republican, said his bill would provide a way to track how many abortions are performed. He predicted it would pass in the Republican-controlled Senate but would have a hard time making it through the Democratic House.
Do I Really Want to 'Be Like Mike'?
There are a lot of reports surrounding the recent court hearing regarding Michael Jordan and his past endorsements with the now dissolute Worldcom (MCI). After Jordan unsuccessfully attempted to collect unpaid endorsement fees from Worldcom, reports made a big deal over the fact that Jordan 'lost in court' or 'was dealt a blow'.
Recording Industry Showin' Some Love To Our Nation's Colleges and Universities
It appears the latest efforts by the Recording Industry Association of America ("RIAA") have been focused on America's youth. The RIAA has filed thousands of complaints with various colleges and universities throughout the country focusing more on some schools than others. This is definitely not the first time the RIAA has gone after students and their educational institutions, nor is it likely to be the last.
OJ Simpson: An Update
Please see my previous post regarding OJ Simpson here
On Tuesday a California judge rightfully ordered OJ Simpson to pay to the Goldman family any royalties he is still receiving from past films and tv appearances. The judge stopped short of ordering OJ to turn over future earnings to the Goldmans, as well as proceeds he initially earned from his controversial unreleased book, "If I Did It".
